U13’s - Coach - Dom Carter
The U13s have had a successful season winning all eight league games, but also enjoying two
exciting friendlies with touring teams from Cardiff and Upminster. With such a large squad (25+),
selection has been difficult. Trying to find a balance between being competitive and giving
everyone match time has been a constant challenge. There has been a marked improvement in
every team we have played against - particularly Filleigh (who we lost to by one wicket in the first
round of the U13 cup) and Braunton (who beat us in the final of the Graham Harris). It is clear
that more and more children are taking their cricket seriously, receiving extra coaching and
practice, and becoming much faster, fitter and smarter with how they are playing their cricket.
More important than winning games and even more important than the vast improvement the
children have made, is their attitude on and off the pitch. They are growing into confident, reliable
and good-humoured young people. Much of this is down to their fantastic parents who sacrifice so
much time, energy and finances on this wonderful game we love. Thank you parents. And thank
you children for being such good company this season; retiring when asked, sometimes only
bowling one or two overs, sometimes only facing a handful of balls, sometimes getting a golden
duck or being hit all around the park. The resilience you are learning on the cricket field will set
you up well for the resilience you will need in your future careers - whatever they may be. All the
best. Dom
