Fremington Trailblazers was informally created by Frank Biederman several years ago. As a result
of Frank’s success in attracting and retaining runners within the club, it was quickly recognised
that this needed to become an official club. In 2018, a committee was formed and the Fremington
Trailblazers joined the ARC (Association of Running Clubs). Since this formation, the club has
gone from strength to strength and currently has 240
members and has now also become a member of England
Athletics.
Training takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday evening.
Runners also arrange additional weekday and weekend runs
via the private Fremington Trailblazer Facebook group.
Those who are already capable of running distances of 5k+ are welcome to join the main group
immediately. Courses are run throughout the year on a Monday evening to encourage those who
wish to start running or for those who need some guidance and support in their return to running.
Sessions are welcoming and friendly and include speed work, drills, technique, pyramids, hills, a
weekly group run, bleep tests and a monthly timed 5K club handicap. Sessions usually last
around 1 hour. The Fremington Trailblazers membership is split into colour groups based on
speed, ability and experience and members are assigned a colour group on joining.
Fremington Trailblazers Running Club hosted their first club race on the 27th July 2018 at the
North Devon Cricket Club. In the first couple of years, Sunset Runfest was a combination of three
races, all starting and finishing within the Cricket Club grounds - a 5K adult’s race (Beat The Fox),
a 3K children’s race (Beat The Rabbit) and a 3K relay race. The course record for the 5K route is
15 minutes and 35 seconds, achieved by Shaun Antell in 2018. In 2019, Adam Holland took the
win in a time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds. This year there will be a 2K children’s race, followed
by a choice of 5K or 10K for anyone aged 14 or over.
Fremington Trailblazers are delighted that the Sunset Runfest will make an appearance once
again at the North Devon Cricket Club on Friday 19th June 2026.
