NDCC 2025 2nd XI
Second XI
2025 was a season of two halves, the first didn’t go brilliantly, with a bit of a renaissance in the
second half to avoid relegation. The first game of the season was away at Ottery, and we were
progressing well in our chase of the first innings total of just over 220 when a suicidal run out cost us
badly. There was a similar story for much of the first half of the season with us squandering some
good opportunities and not able to win games we should have done. We really struggled with
availability at times which compounded our woes.
Thankfully, availability was better in the second half of the season, and we somewhat aided by the
occasional presence of a few first teamers including Tom Ansell and Dan Bowser who both weighed
in with big scores.
The second team is a proving ground for many of our youngsters and Noah Tovell really stuck his
head above the parapet during the season and won the player of the year award due to his
performances with both bat and ball. The final game of the season proved how challenging our
bowling attack has the potential to be against any opposition. Two ‘old timers’ keeping things tight
before the multiple threats of the youngsters (Ware, Hughes and Tovell) came on to bowl out
Shobrooke cheaply.
On to the 2026 season, and best wishes to Steve Moore who is taking the reins as captain.
